Poke in the eye
- Eric started his new job as a Pizza Hut delivery driver. I think that he is enjoying it. However, it has been requiring long hours. Yesterday he worked from 3pm-12am. and today from 12pm-9pm(I hope.) This is the longest span of time that we have been apart since September. I miss him, but we will find our routine soon.
- Emily's word of the month for October was "down."
- Oma and Opa came and visited the weekend of the 23rd. We were so glad to have them here.
- We have been visiting churches. Elmbrook, First Assembly of Waukesha, Oakwood, and Crosswalk. We have been challenged by the preaching in these churches and encouraged to see God working throughout the Waukesha area.
- Eric and I have been watching the last episodes of Battlestar Galactica.
- Emily has been waking up in the middle of the night. I always find her sitting up. She seems to not know what to do and can't go back to sleep sitting up. It has made for some short nights.
- Tonight Emily used a fork to eat macarroni. She did really well.
I'm sure your wondering about the poke in the eye. While Emily was in the nursery this morning, she poked her eye. (This is what they told us.) She seemed to be fine until I put her coat on to leave. She then preceded to cry from 10:30 until 12. This didn't make her eye feel any better. At noon, she feel asleep for two hours. However, I held her for the whole nap because I wanted her to sleep and not wake up. Sure enough, when I put her into her bed after two hours, she woke up almost instantly. My cousin, Kevin, who is an eye doctor, prescribed medicine for her eye. It seems to have helped, but she still has a very red, irritated eye. She played at Grandma's house this evening with her Aunt and Uncles and was for the most part fine. We pray that God heals her eye over night with the help of the medicine.

Sick but Kissy Baby
Just in case you run into her, she has started giving out kisses and I don't want you to be alarmed. She'll lean in with a 'mmmm' sound. Sometimes she gets the end and sometimes she does it with an open mouth. So in case you meet her and you're wondering why she's making that funny noise, I just wanted to give you a heads up.

Funny
This morning she found her toothbrush on the floor. She knew it was a brush so she started to brush her hair with it.
While eating lunch, Emily said the word for cat and then pointed out the window. Sure enough, a cat was by our garage door.

Changes-please pray
Our last week at Fox River will be August 30th. Eric is looking for a new position as an associate pastor. This week he went to Virginia to interview with a church. The interview went well and we are waiting to see what God has in store for us.
Even though Eric will not be working at Fox River, God as provided. I was offered and accepted a part-time job at West Suburban Christian Academy teaching Spanish to Kinder and 1st grade and pre-algebra. I will be starting Monday with teacher in-service. Eric will be staying home with Emily in the mornings. Who could ask for a better babysitter while I returned to work? Knowing that Eric will be with Emily has made my transition easier.
We would greatly appreciate your prayers during this time in our lives. God is at work and we are patiently waiting for Him to show us His plans.
I found this verse in my reading. It made me smile and reminded me that God is working and I discovered that I'm not the only one who wants to see God's plan now.
Isaiah 5:19
"Woe to those who say, "Let God hurry, let him hasten his work so we may see it. Let it approach, let the plan of the Holy One of Israel come so we may know it."

Rash
Unfortunately, Vacation Bible School started at Fox River today. I was suppose to help with the 1st grade girls. I'm really sad to be missing out. The doctor suggested that Emily stay away from other children incase she is contagious.
The Lord has a good plan. I must continue to trust His timing for everything.

I was working in the kitchen and I heard the piano. I didn't think it was Eric. How was Emily playing the piano?

A cold
Well, today Emily's nose is running like a faucet and she is coughing up a storm. It is so hard to see my little one uncomfortable, but I know that there will be many more times in the years to come.
It's a particularly busy day today. Eric is working until 2pm. I have a baby shower at 2pm, and then Eric goes back to work at 4:30 for a couple of hours. I think this is a forecast of the business of the week.

5 Months Old!
She isn't eating food yet, but that day is coming soon. This morning as soon as I got my yogurt out, Emily dropped her toy and reached for the yogurt. This is the first time I have seen her drop something to have what I was eating.

Peek-a-boo
How time flies
Last week Eric started the Alpha class at church. He has had about 15-20 in attendance. We are praying that these people come to know God and/or know Him better. I had the privilege of making chili for the first class. It turned out well and I think that everyone enjoyed it.
This week we have been preparing to go to Maine for my brother's wedding. We leave Thursday evening and get to our destination at 1am. Please be praying for Emily. Her ears have been hurting her and I pray that the pressurized air doesn't make them worse.
Eric will be officiating the wedding on Saturday and we will be flying home on Sunday. We are excited to see a new state and be part of the marriage of two godly people.

Is she getting big?
We went to the doctor for her 4 month appointment yesterday. She is 17lbs 14oz (99%) and 27in (98%). That means that only one child out of 100 weighs more than her at four months and only two children out of 100 are longer than her at four months. I continue to praise the Lord for giving us a healthy, happy baby.
My brother was here today when I put Emily down for her nap. He said, "She really only cries when she goes to sleep." And he is correct.
Back to the doctor. Emily got her four month shots. I went to the bathroom and Eric stayed with her. I was listening for the sound of Emily crying to know that it was okay to go back into the room, but I heard nothing. Emily didn't cry. Wow! We were all amazed.
Emily has now slept through the night for the last four days. We praise the Lord for this transition. Because of her sleeping, Eric and I have been able to go to the gym in the morning. We went three days this week and hope to go more next week. Having Larisa here to listen for Emily to wake up is cetainly a treat. We will miss her when she marries my brother. (Just two more weeks. ) :)
